Personal Message

Dear Neighbor,

We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful area, one which we are proud to call home. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. That is why I am running for Supervisor. I want to keep Sonoma County the special place I grew up in, the place where we live, work, raise our families and retire.

When my family first came to Sonoma County, we were poor and lived in a troubled neighborhood. My dad fought to rid the neighborhood of drugs and violence but, seeing the destructive paths many of the children in the neighborhood were taking, he and my mom sought help to better my family's life. That help came in the form of Habitat for Humanity and their decision to make my family a partner family in their program. I remember my entire family working day in and day out with the Habitat for Humanity volunteers to build our new home. Seeing the pride my parents felt for their hard work and ability to break the cycle of poverty and purchase their own home is something I will never forget. The generosity from Habitat for Humanity and the life lesson my parents instilled in me that the only way to make a difference is through hard work, dedication and perseverance is what sent me on my path of public service.

I see a bright future for Sonoma County. I am deeply committed to this community and as Supervisor I will make smart decisions to ensure its successful future.  We must protect our open space and natural resources by managing growth, avoiding urban sprawl and educating the public on conservation methods. We need to take back our neighborhoods from gangs, drugs and violence by increasing funding for public safety. It is critical we improve how the County distributes its healthcare resources so all Sonoma County residents have the means to afford health insurance. We face many challenges ahead but there is nothing that, as a community, we cannot accomplish.

The need for political change has swept through our country and Sonoma County is no different. It's time for a change in local politics. Political divisiveness threatens our quality of life. We need someone without political baggage who will focus on consensus building, not a personal agenda - I am that candidate. One of the many qualities I respect most in the people of the Fifth District is your active participation on the issues that matter most to our county. As Supervisor, I want to hear your thoughts, comments and concerns so I can better represent you. We must work together toward a better Sonoma County. Remember, together, we can make a difference.

If you should have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Efren Carrillo
